What is the BottleBlankie?
Its functional use is to provide baby with a tactile sensation superior to that experienced when baby grabs a bottle alone. Most, if not all babies grab for feeding bottles but do not necessarily find the smooth texture of the bottle that interesting. Or the exposed baby bottle may just feel too hot to baby.
The Baby BottleBlankie is warm and soft so it feels nicer - but also, it just looks better.
BottleBlankie Genesis
When our son Ronan (Irish name meaning “little seal”) was born we, like many new parents, were given and bought all sorts of baby toys, clothes, accessories, you name it really. From initial breastfeeding through Formulas and other liquids later, we used a particular brand of 9oz baby bottle we favored. However, with all the beautifully soft and warm blankies, hats, booties, bibs and bobs, we were surprised that baby bottles came in just two choices: your basic hard plastic or glass.
Searching for a covering for the baby bottles we found nothing and so the first Baby BottleBlankie was born. It needed to be warm and soft of course (and that was and still is the most important criteria) but with babies it also needed to be strong, durable, and washable and so fleece was chosen as the best fabric choice. It initially consisted of a covering elasticized at the top end and enclosed on the bottom (a baby bottle sock) but that version didn't allow the bottle to be put down on a table or any flat surface as it tended to fall over. The solution was to open both ends so as to form a sleeve that 
covered the bottle but left the top and base ends open and so offered the warm and soft feel without any interference to the bottle.
In daily use our son Ronan loved the Baby BottleBlankie, so much so that he didn't want a bottle without what he called “Top.” Everyone else loved it also and loved it immediately. It was clear this was not just a good idea for our son but good enough to have commercial merit. Here was one of those products so simple and obvious as to demand a “why didn't I think of that” from everyone that saw it.
So the name then became the challenge. We toyed with using Top as the name as it was our son's description but it was just too general a term. The name had to be descriptive but it also had to impart the sense of warmth and softness that it brings. What's warmer or softer than a baby blankie we thought but even still it took forever to come up with the name. But once we did we knew it was right, it felt organic: Baby BottleBlankie.
